help:tags
Tags
Tags are keywords attached to a post that describe what is in it. They are how everything on this site is found — searching, blacklisting, and subscriptions all run on tags.
Tag categories
Tags are colour-coded by what kind of thing they describe.
- General — what is actually in the picture: @long_hair@, @hug@, @school_uniform@, @blush@.
- Artist — who drew it. One per post, matching the artist's name.
- Character — who is in it: @samarie@, @marina@, @levi@.
- Copyright — what work it is from: @fear_and_hunger_termina@.
- Meta — facts about the file rather than the picture: @animated@, @highres@, @comic@.
Tagging conventions
- Use underscores instead of spaces: @long_hair@, not @long hair@.
- Tags are lowercase.
- Prefer the tag that already exists. Type a few letters and the autocomplete will suggest existing tags with their post counts — pick from those rather than inventing a new spelling.
- Tag what you can actually see. Do not add a tag because you assume it, and do not add tags to make a post show up in unrelated searches.
- More tags is better, as long as each one is true.
Creating new tags
Anyone can create a tag just by using it on a post. Because of that, please check the autocomplete first — a misspelled tag splits a search in two and someone has to clean it up later.
